A non-profit organization helping women

The Bhagawati Women’s project is a Nepali charitable institution dedicated to empowering women and their families in our local area.
We are located in the Kathmandu Valley, in Sankhu, one hour from Kathmandu.

The Bhagawati Women’s project was founded in 2009 by Nirmal Thapa, born in Sankhu and working as the Principal in Primary school. In the last years, he has actively contributed to the improvement of the Sankhu local community.

Because the project is entirely run by volunteers and largely financially supported by Nirmal Thapa and his family, all donations go directly to support our projects and contribute to increasing the living standard of women in Sankhu.

Our project aims at being self-sustaining. Money is raised by the profit gained from vegetables and fruits produced and sold at the local market.

All women who attend our schools do not pay fees as they could not afford to pay even a nominal fee (in comparison most similar schools that are accredited and supported by the government require women to pay some small fee). We are also provide free learning materials.

Government support:
2000 Nepali Rupees per month (equivalent to 20 US$).
